It's all in the name...
1. to grow together.
2. to unite into a whole. to unite for a common end.
to arise from the combination of distinct elements.
Coalescence aims to bring separated elements together to combine into something greater. We hope everyone will join in and contribute towards making this event special for one another. It's about all walks of life developing a dynamic of family-friendly environmental projects, dance, local business opportunities and community support. We believe we're stronger when we work together.
As a collaborative community event, we are reaching out to all sustainability-minded organisations around the cairns region to weigh in. If you are interested in becoming involved, please contact us on the email address below. We don't proclaim to be experts in any of this; we're all learning as we go. So if you think you could help us out with something we've missed, or if you'd like to lend your expertise, please drop us a line and make a suggestion: firstname.lastname@example.org
WE AIM TO...
Provide a platform that encourages awareness of ecology and sustainable practices.
Conduct research into what impacts are engendered in events of this nature.
Hold ourselves accountable for the impacts of our event, and seek more effective methods of conducting future eco-conscious outdoor events.
Showcase the incredible talents of local artists, musicians and positive organisations to the wider fnq community.
Encourage a greener culture and awareness into the community. We encourage ecological insights from local revegetation organisations to help establish a deeper interest and understanding for festival attendees and other festival coordinators.
So in a single sentence:
WE AIM TO THROW A FUN ALL-AGES SHIN-DIG THAT DOESN'T COST THE EARTH:
NOT FINANCIALLY, NOR SOCIALLY, NOR ECOLOGICALLY!
We incorporate tree planting, recycling, composting, and renewable energy generation into the program and infrastructure. We also calculate the total carbon released throughout the weekend and we do everything we can think of to reduce and offset our emissions. All of our findings will be published on the Hivemind blog, over at arkhive music.

what actually happens at coalescence?
The event will go a little something like this...
Drop in anytime from midday onwards on Friday afternoon. The Mission Beach region is absolutely stunning so if you're not from around here, check out the beautiful beaches, go for a forest walk up Bicton Hill or stop in for some tucker at one of the local cafes. We'll open the gates at midday and welcome you to come in and set up camp. Some relaxed music will be featured on the Grind Control stage in the market area, as well as an interesting and informative cinema space, but we'll all be off to bed early so we can be well rested for the festivities to really kick off the following day.
Saturday morning begins bright and early by planting trees. We want to get stuck into it before it gets too hot. We'll have some experienced "green-thumbs" on deck to make sure everyone knows what they're doing.
There'll be some laid-back djs playing on the stage during the planting sessions for those who aren't too keen to get their hands dirty. :p
Around 11ish, the bands will start up and everyone can knock-off and have some fun. The sounds will be spread across 3 stages -Chrysalis, Grind Control, and Solar Chill- each playing something different, so wander around and see what takes your interest.
There'll be market stalls on site offering artisanal crafts and serving up some tasty grub.
Around midday, you'll all be invited to participate in our opening ceremony including a big BYO jam session.
Expect an innovative and diverse range of local and international talent, playing everything from hip-hop to house, from soul to psytrance, from reggae to rock and roll and everything in between! The sounds will run into the night (at a respectable volume of course), and will wind down a little after midnight.
For the hardcore partiers, there will be some DJs playing on through the night, but in the interest of keeping the Maria Creeks neighbourhood happy it will be on the smaller sound system at the Solar Chill.
The music will recommence fully in the morning with the Chrysalis Stage opening up around breaky-time and we'll have a whole nutha day of fun in the sun!
Just remember to party responsibly so that you can drive home safely on Monday ;)
